Wetland Restoration

The conservation of waterfowl and other species dependant upon wetland systems, ultimately must focus on the protection and restoration of ecologically functional habitat complexes and systems. The PWP works with landowners and partners to offer a full range of conservation practices, technical and cost-share assistance through existing federal, state and private restoration programs. Working with local Soil and Water Conservation Districts, State Wildlife and Forestry Departments, US Fish and Wildlife Service, and Forest Service personnel, the PWP is committed to delivering programs that address the habitat restoration needs of each individual landowner. These needs may include a range of in-stream habitat restoration, wetland creation and restoration, riparian buffer restoration and enhancement, habitat management, and pasture management - all of which facilitate restoration. The wetland engineers have proven themselves proficient in designing wetland restoration projects that are efficient, inexpensive and easy to maintain.

Research is a crucial component of some of the wetland projects. Site-specific research helps decision-makers and researchers to better understand the functions and values of wetlands, riparian areas, associated uplands, and the flora and fauna they support. Special attention is paid to the facilitation of technology transfer, so that other land managers may have state-of-the-art information available to guide them in their management decisions.
