The amount of forest in a landscape often is a clue to watershed health. The locations here in the Shenandoah help to provide an overview of the surrounding landscape. Forests conserve nutrients, shade streams, and slow storm runoff, functions that maintain natural stream systems. Often, watershed health is often not entirely visible just by looking at a landscape. The Potomac Watershed Partnership Assessment is designed to help understand the existing condition of natural resources, stresses on the landscape that affect current and future conditions, and actions taken to restore health of the forests, wetlands, and streams of focus watersheds.
