Wildfire besieged the Shenandoah National Park from October 30th to November 13th, 2000. 900 federal and state firefighters battled the fire with retardant drops from planes and helicopters. Over 25, 000 acres burned. Crews from all over the country pitched in to help including a Native American crew shown protecting one of the lodges at the Park. One of the eastern United State's most beloved places survived this catastrophic event due to the diligent teamwork of these firefighters.
