Allotment Buffer 2

This is the South Fork of the Shenandoah River, just upstream from Bentonville Crossing in Virginia. The west bank, for about a one mile stretch, has a U.S. Forest Service grazing allotment. Fencing has been damaged from recent flooding and woody vegetation along the west bank is scarce. Cattle have access to the river for watering. The Forest Service, in cooperation with the Potomac Watershed Partnership, will install new fencing, stock tanks and develop a forested buffer along this section of the South Fork. The close mountain to the west is Massanutten Mountain. The far off mountains to the northeast are the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Skyline Drive.
