This particular farm is located in the southern portion of Washington County in the Antietam Creek watershed. This parcel is owned by Edgar Czarra and is enrolled in the Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program. The pastureland on this farm was taken out of production and will be planted in trees and shrubs. Tree planting will begin in the spring of 2002. Forested buffers, on land that would otherwise be in pasture, will help protect the various streams that run through Mr. Czarra’s property from nutrient and sediment runoff often associated with agricultural fields. Furthermore, the planting of shrubs and trees along the stream bank will improve bank stability and help shade the stream, making the water cooler and more livable for a larger variety of aquatic life.
