Friends Creek, a tributary to Toms Creek, courses through the Catoctin Mountains in northern Frederick County. This stream flows through beautiful forestland and agriculture land alike, and eventually into the Monocacy River. This stream supports several species of trout and is popular with anglers young and old. As the water in Friends Creek leaves the protection of the mountains and the forests, and heads into the valley where agriculture becomes the dominant land use, the water quality decreases. Reforesting agriculture land will help protect the water quality of Friends Creek, and the Monocacy and Potomac Rivers. Improving water quality and the streams condition not only helps the citizens within the watershed, but also improves fish and wildlife habitat. |
